[Review XN] WARKOP DKI REBORN 4

"After all, where are the rich people who look like bemo?"

When the main characters in Warkop DKI Reborn 3 reappear in the end credits to sing “ahaaa… the film is divided in two, the film is divided in two,” I was not at all surprised. Understandably, this is not the first time I have received this kind of prank from an Indonesian film. Even so, that doesn't mean I don't want to stroke my chest when the musical moment appears. If only the film you just watched could provide an experience full of fun throughout its duration, the presence of the second part would certainly be welcomed with great joy – I personally belong to the group who do not mind the existence of Warkop DKI Reborn: Jangkrik Boss Part 2. But since the first half is more frequent made me laugh at my own decision to watch the film instead of laughing at the humor, there was confusion. There are raging questions that begin with, “why does it have to be divided by two? What is the urgency?” It is as if Falcon Pictures is very confident that this latest reborn installation will be enthusiastically welcomed by the public. In fact, only about 800 thousand spectators are willing to flock to the cinema, forcing production houses to change their strategy. Instead of distributing it in theaters, they chose to directly deploy Warkop DKI Reborn 4 to a film streaming service provider in the hope of entertaining the public during the pandemic at home. Although if I may be honest, the word "entertaining" to describe this film feels too generous.

Just to remind you that maybe you have forgotten the plot in the previous series, Warkop DKI personnel consisting of Dono (Aliando Syarief), Kasino (Adipati Dolken), and Indro (Randy Danistha) were recruited by Komando Cok (Indro Warkop) to investigate money laundering activities. in Indonesian cinema. However, in the midst of the investigation, the trio fainted into a box and woke up in the barren Moroccan desert. In an effort to find Inka (Salshabilla Adriani), their co-star in the film who is also known to be trapped in the box, the three get help from local residents, Aisyah (Aurora Ribero) and Ahmed (Dewa Dayana). Warkop DKI Reborn 4 highlights the five friends' efforts to find traces of the Inka's whereabouts, which leads them to confront the residents of a village full of philanderers, and to meet them with a dangerous mafia boss named Aminta Bacem (played by Rajkumar Bakhtiani - impersonator Amitabh Bachchan). . As if this herd wasn't enough to complicate the search for the Inka who disappeared somewhere, Warkop DKI also had to hunt down Amir Muka (Ganindra Bimo) who became the main suspect in the money laundry case and is said to be circulating in Morocco.

Basically, not much can be said in Warkop DKI Reborn 4, where the conflict feels like a repetition of the previous series. Still in touch with residents of a village who once targeted Aisyah as a form of reciprocity for the assistance they provided. Although we both know that the protagonists will be able to escape easily, but the process to get to that outcome is never gripping. Moreover, it invites laughter. It flows very sluggishly like the Warkop DKI personnel (and also the expression on my face) who think that fighting against the strongest residents in the village is not a big problem. The stakes for Aisyah's fate are invisible, so even if she is handed over to the village leader, who will feel the loss? As the duration goes on, his presence is solely positioned as a damsel in distress to give Dono and his friends a reason to do something as well as become an object of fantasy for the Casino. Even so, at least his character is still more useful than Ahmed, who is like a cheerleader team in this series. There is no significant role for him, even the training sessions with Kasino-Indro are purely for fun without any connection with matches that go on as they please in the name of humor. From this point on, the film, whose script was written by Anggoro Saronto and Rako Prijanto (who is also the director), has begun to ignore the cause and effect in storytelling.

Warkop DKI Reborn 4 is often composed of a collection of segments that have no correlation with each other just to show how much production costs have been spent, or (again) in the name of humor. It doesn't really matter because Jangkrik Boss does it anyway. What then distinguishes it: 1) The second act of Jangkrik Boss still considers the first act to be there, unlike this film, where the narrative is so distorted that it makes us forget the storyline of the previous film. 2) Anggy Umbara is more skilled in handling fight moments that have excitement or make funny jokes, while Rako tends to be overwhelmed. Almost no energy in the action and comedic elements. Tasteless. He has indeed received assistance from the production management team who maximizes the setting well by bringing out the exotic side of Morocco. He also received support from the trio of main players who tried their best, especially Randy Danistha who merged convincingly into the characters of Indro and Aliando Syarief who quite resembled the late Dono. It's just that they are constrained by the humor material, which is more misspelled, and even tends to be sexist. As if it wasn't enough to make the audience forgive, the jokes in Warkop DKI Reborn 4 experienced a drastic decrease in quality from the previous series, which can still make an impression on the memory when paying homage to the old Warkop DKI or using inverted Arabic that tickles.

Here, like the narrative itself, it is limited to recycling what was already there with a weakened impact. It adds to the confusion as to why this latest Reborn must be forced to split into two. I want to laugh, but I don't know what to laugh at. Do I have to laugh at my decision again for giving this film a chance even though I have been disappointed by the previous installation? Maybe it's better that way. Because no one was churning their stomachs, the duration of only 100 minutes felt like forever. A film that is suitable for those of you who feel the time of the day is running too fast. Thank goodness they didn't sing "ahaaa... the film is divided by three, the film is divided by three," at the end of the story.

Poor (2/5)
